Uppal–Narapally Elevated Corridor Faces Delays, Commuters Struggle

Hyderabad: Work on the 6.2-kilometre Uppal–Narapally elevated corridor has slowed significantly, leaving commuters struggling with traffic congestion, dust and poor road conditions along one of the city’s key routes towards Warangal and Yadagirigutta.

Although the concrete piers supporting the elevated structure have been completed, installation of the horizontal girders has yet to begin, according to a report by Telangana Today. The delay has raised concerns about whether the project can meet its revised completion deadline of June 2027.

Labour Shortage Slows Construction

A senior engineer associated with the project told Telangana Today that a shortage of labour has emerged as a major obstacle to construction.

According to the engineer, many specialised workers from northern India returned to their hometowns for Ganesh Chaturthi and extended their stay through Dussehra. The reduced workforce has slowed activity at the construction site, with some heavy machinery reportedly remaining idle.

The delay in girder installation has left completed concrete piers awaiting the next major stage of construction.

Commuters Face Traffic Congestion and Dust

Motorists travelling between Uppal and Narapally, including those heading towards Warangal and Yadagirigutta, continue to face congestion along the stretch.

Commuters have complained about potholes, dust, exhaust fumes and traffic obstructions, saying the unfinished work has made daily travel difficult. Despite the visible progress of the elevated structure, the corridor has yet to deliver the intended traffic relief.

The ongoing disruption has also affected businesses along the road. Local traders have reported persistent dust and reduced customer footfall, with some people avoiding the area because of congestion and difficult access.

Project Faces Deadline Concerns

The Uppal–Narapally elevated corridor project began in 2018 and has experienced delays. In September, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced a revised completion target of June 2027.

However, the current slowdown has raised questions about whether the deadline can be met. The pace of construction will depend in part on restoring the workforce and beginning the pending girder installation work.

Residents Await Traffic Relief

The elevated corridor is intended to improve traffic movement along the Uppal–Narapally stretch and ease travel for motorists using the route towards eastern Telangana.

For commuters and businesses operating along the road, the immediate concern remains the prolonged construction disruption. Until work advances and the corridor becomes operational, motorists are likely to continue facing the difficulties associated with the unfinished project.

The latest reported delays underline the need for construction to progress while minimising the impact on traffic and nearby commercial activity.
