Thiruvananthapuram: In a major step to strengthen the fight against drug abuse, the Kerala government will launch India's first public Anti-Drug Intelligence Portal on July 1.
The new online platform has been designed to encourage people to report drug-related activities without revealing their identity. Citizens can share information about drug trafficking, illegal sales and narcotics use directly through the portal.
Besides receiving public complaints, the system will also help people looking for treatment by providing access to de-addiction and counselling services. Officials said the identity of those using the portal will be kept confidential.
Excise Minister M. Liju said the initiative is part of the state's Mayangilla Keralam campaign, which focuses on preventing drug abuse through public participation, awareness programmes and stronger law enforcement.
The Kerala government is also expanding its anti-drug operations across the state. Operation Thunder has been intensified to target drug smuggling, while Operation Shuddhi will continue action against the manufacture and sale of illegal liquor.
To improve investigations, modern drug-testing equipment will be supplied to all Excise Range Offices. The government also plans to establish a dedicated chemical examination laboratory for the Excise Department at Kayamkulam and create a specialised Narcotic Control Bureau to deal with organised drug networks.
Authorities said awareness campaigns in educational institutions will be strengthened, and de-addiction centres will be expanded across the state to provide better treatment and rehabilitation services.
The government believes the new portal will encourage greater public involvement in reporting drug offences and help build a safer, drug-free society.
